A group of freewheelers from Berkeley had purchased the property a year prior and Williams caught wind of an Orr commune. Williams arrived in 1976, first as a guest seeking respite. The property extends across 27 acres of rolling coastal Mendocino mountains, but the resort is exclusively nuzzled on the valley's floor with a rocky cliff on one side.ĭuring a recent springtime afternoon, a cover of mist hovered above the sequoia treetops to add an extra layer of comfort for a secluded soak in the upper deck tubs. Due to the global supply chain hiccup, one of the two saunas is currently closed as the resort awaits parts. ![]() A cold water pool near the back helps cool off from the warm water or one of the saunas nearby. A stone statue reclines near the front lawn adding to the tranquility. There are tubs, both private and public, with relaxing amenities scattered throughout the premises. The verdant oasis is awash in greenery with access to multiple aqua lounges. The main lodge houses the administrative office and communal kitchen. Believed to be the oldest business that’s still operating with the same name in Mendocino County, the Orr Hot Springs was established in 1858 and is a hidden retreat just a few hours north of San Francisco. ![]()
